Business Acumen

Business acumen is a way of understanding and dealing with business risks and opportunities that leads to better outcomes and serves as a tool for improved financial performance and leadership development. Through the continuous development of business skills and knowledge, business acumen supports individuals and organizations to make better decisions and have a positive impact on the individuals that they serve. Organizations with strong business acumen are able to assimilate information from different sources to make good business decisions quickly and devise appropriate strategies.

Recognizing the importance of business, Missouri state agencies applied for and were selected as one of five state teams for participation in the Disability Network Business Acumen Learning Collaborative. This effort is led by the national Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities (NASUAD) in partnership with nine national organizations.

Learning Collaborative

The goal of this initiative is to enhance integrated health care services for individuals with IDD in Missouri by improving the capacity of Missouri Community Based Organizations to implement sound business practices that better prepare them to meet the growing needs of individuals who are most at risk (e.g. those who are aging, those with co-occurring disabilities).

The Business Acumen Learning Collaborative will provide an opportunity for Missouri’s network for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to make organizational changes both at the statewide systems level and the local community level to more effectively address the healthcare needs of this population.
