Missouri Suicide Prevention Network

 

The Missouri Suicide Prevention Network (MSPN) is an independent, non-partisan, voluntary group of individuals, organizations, and public and private agencies who lead statewide suicide prevention efforts. MSPN was created in 2018 to reduce suicide through increasing coordination of efforts and implementing best practices for suicide prevention statewide. It is dedicated to promoting local, regional, and statewide suicide prevention initiatives that follow a public health framework and focus on evidence-based data, collaboration, and active community engagement.

Help Him Stay Campaign Campaign Period: 2016 – 2019

Missouri Department of Mental Health Decrease launched a statewide campaign from 2016 – 2019 titled "Help Him Stay." The purpose of this campaign was to encourage help seeking among all males but specifically targeting middle-aged males in rural areas who are at highest risk of suicide in Missouri.

Free Suicide Prevention Training Programs
  • The Suicide Prevention Resource Center offers in-person and online suicide prevention training courses, webinars, and other virtual learning experiences.
     
  • The Education Development Center offers an online Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM) course intended to educate individuals on why means reduction is an important part of suicide prevention and how to help someone at risk of suicide reduce access to lethal means.
     
  • Missouri Ask Listen Refer (ALR) is a 15-20 minute online suicide prevention training that teaches you how to identify someone at risk of suicide, recognize risk factors, protective factors, and warning signs, and respond to and get help for someone at risk.
     
  • Preventing Suicide in Emergency Departments is a self-paced online course for health care professionals and others who may work with patients at risk of suicide.
     
  • The Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) Tool Training is an online training offered by the Columbia Lighthouse Project on how to use the C-SSRS tool.
