The East Missouri Autism Project (EWMAP) operates on a family allocation model. Under this model, the Department of Mental Health provides funds for individual families to obtain authorized autism services. Under this model, families have the ability to choose a service provider.
The annual amount allocated to families is based on recommendations from the East Parent Advisory Council and available funding. Based on the provider chosen, families may be required to pay for their services and be reimbursed by the Department.
To receive funding from the EMAP, individuals must have an identified need on his/her Individual Support Plan and not have insurance or other resources that would otherwise cover the cost of the identified service.
