Missouri provides 3 key evidence-based programs to high need individuals identified within our various contracted community mental health agencies. These include Assertive Community Treatment (ACT), Integrated Treatment for Co-occurring Disorders (ITCD) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These services are provided to acute, vulnerable individuals to ensure they remain productive and functional in their own homes and communities. These services are provided at a fraction of the cost of treatment than in longer term hospitalization or intensive residential services.
DMH goal: To ensure that high quality services, which are shown to increase positive individual outcomes, are available to more eligible individuals in Missouri.
Integrated Treatment for Co-occurring Disorders (ITCD) is an evidence-based practice with research to support its effectiveness for people with a serious mental illness and a co-occurring substance use disorder. Over 50% of people with the most serious mental illnesses have a co-occurring substance use disorder within their lifetime.
Integrated treatment teams are comprised of a physician or advanced practice nurse, a registered professional nurse, a qualified mental health professional, a qualified substance use professional and community support staff. With integrated treatment, the same practitioners or treatment team, working in one setting, provide mental health and substance use disorder treatment in an integrated fashion. Individuals receiving integrated treatment receive one consistent message about treatment and recovery.
Missouri has 49 teams that provide integrated treatment and serve approximately 3,100 individuals.
