Dialectical Behavior Therapy is an evidence-based practice with research to support its effectiveness for individuals with chronic suicidal and self-injurious behavior, and who present with mood and behavioral dysregulation have complex diagnoses and are difficult to treat.
With DBT treatment, positive outcomes are likely. According to www.behavioraltech.org recipients of DBT vs. treatment as usual are less likely to drop out of treatment, less likely to engage in suicide or self-injury, are less likely to be hospitalized, are likely to have fewer days in the hospital, and are likely to have higher scores for global and social adjustment. Overall, research suggests that DBT costs approximately 50% less than treatment as usual in the community over the course of one year.
