Public & Legislative Affairs

The Office of Public and Legislative Affairs disseminates information to the public concerning mental health programs and services and helps promote the people, programs, and services of the department through publications and television and radio programs. The office also provides support services, technical assistance, and training to the department's divisions, offices, and facilities

The Office also works with state and local officials, stakeholders, the public and other state departments to advocate the department's objectives by advancing legislative initiatives designed to develop sound public policies relating the mental health services. The Office helps develop legislation and represents the Department director in communications with the Governor's Office and members of the General Assembly, monitors the progress of bills and other legislative activities, and provides legislative information to Department staff, the Mental Health Commission, and the Department's stakeholders.
