2012 Legislative Update
The 2012 Legislative Session began January 4. Below are some of the bills that the department is tracking.

| HB 1110 | Barnes | Authorizes veterans treatment courts for cases involving substance abuse or mental illness of military veterans or current military personnel. |

| HB 1663 | Kirkton | Authorizes advanced practice registered nurses in a collaborative practice arrangement with a licensed physician to determine whether restraint of a patient in a mental health facility is necessary. |
| HB 1700 | Schad | Revises sex offender registry process |
| HB 1794 | Grisamore | Clarifies the definition of "employment" as it relates to employment security laws regarding in-home or community-based services for clients of a county board for developmental disability services |
| HB 1887 | Grisamore | Prohibits a sheltered workshop's board of directors from holding in reserve any general operating moneys in excess of one year's estimated annual general operating costs with certain specified exceptions. |
| HB 1888 | Grisamore | Establishes the Office of Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities within the Office of Administration to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities and developmentally disabled persons |
| HB 1902 | Grisamore | Establishes provisions relating to the procurement of goods and services by state agencies with persons having significant mental or physical disabilities |
| HB 1907 | C. Jones | Changes various provisions regarding vulnerable persons |
| HB 1987 | Leara | Establishes requirements for parental consent for mental health screening of youth in schools and requires standards for use of psychotropic medications by DSS. |

May 18 - Session Ends at 6 p.m.
September 12 - Veto Session
