Individualized Services and Supports

Natural supports are people and places in an individual's community that are available for all people and are necessary for individuals with disabilities to truly be a part of their community. Examples of places where people find these natural supports are churches, schools, clubs, civic organizations, family, and friends. These natural supports create social capitol. The central idea of social capital is the social networks have value. It is essential that families who are raising children with disabilities create a circle of natural support. This allows individuals with disabilities and their families to have full, meaningful lives and to truly belong to their community.
