The Office of the Deputy Director oversees the department's administrative services and human resources. The Office also provides oversight to internal and external audit services related to compliance, financial, and performance reviews; abuse and neglect investigations; and the department's services for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Jan Heckemeyer was appointed to the position of Department Deputy Director
on September 1, 2010. Heckemeyer is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Government Financial Manager, and has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Missouri at Columbia. She has over
24 years of state service with the Office of Administration and Department
of Mental Health, including the past four years as the Deputy Director of Administration.
